I’ve had oily skin for as long as I can remember. Like, not the cute, dewy oily skin either. Like, the bad, acne-prone, greasy oily skin. It’s plagued me since I was 12 years old. Acne followed me up until high school when I went on Accutane. Even so, years later, I continued to have oily skin and struggle with break outs. It was maddening and discouraging being in your mid-20’s and still struggling with acne!
And then along came keto! The ketogenic diet pretty much healed my acne. I was shocked, because I grew up always being told that fatty foods would make my break outs worse. But my skin was still oily, which can pose a lot of challenges when it comes to makeup.
If you can imagine, when I got pregnant and came off keto, my skin was in terrible shape! Pregnancy hormones and carbs were ravaging my complexion, and it was not pretty.
On a whim at Ross once, I wandered into their beauty section and saw they had a large selection of skincare products. Some I recognized, some I didn’t. By chance I picked up a bottle of jojoba oil by SJ Clinicals for I think $6. I was intrigued by this product because it also boasted 10% ascorbic acid, which is a fancy way to say vitamin C. Vitamin C is great for reducing the appearance of dark spots, which I have a lot of after suffering with acne for so long. I did some quick research to see if jojoba oil was non-comedogenic (it is), and shelled out the $6.See how this skincare product cured my oily, acne prone skin! #skincare #makeup Click To Tweet
Best $6 I ever spent!
After using nearly this entire bottle, I’m totally hooked on jojoba oil!
After seeing such incredible results, I did a bit more research and discovered that jojoba oil closely mimics the skin’s natural sebum (the oils your skin produces). Too much sebum is what causes clogged pores and acne. So when you apply jojoba oil to oily skin, your skin interprets it as its own sebum and reduces its natural sebum production. Boom – less oily skin!
Jojoba oil has totally normalized my skin! Not only do I rarely break out anymore, but my makeup is lasting better for longer periods of time because my natural oils aren’t breaking it up! For someone who has struggled with oily, acne-prone skin for more than half of her life, this is nothing short of a miracle!
Once I’m totally out of the SJ Clinicals, I’ll be purchasing this honkin’ four ounce bottle from Leven Rose on Amazon.
