Date Night Ideas For Parents When the Kids Are Away

Posted March 16, 2018 by Kalyn in Dates, Marriage, Motherhood / 4 Comments

If you follow me on Instagram – which like *ahem* you should – then you know that my daughter, Clementine, recently had her first sleep over at her grandparents’ house a few weeks ago. My husband and I had our first night of freedom since having her and – let me tell you – it was life changing. After racking our brains for date night ideas, we finally settled on what to do. We went out to dinner, came home to let our food digest, went out for dessert, came home again, and eventually ended up at the Waffle House at 11:30pm simply because we could. I look back on that night with such fondness. We had a fabulous time! And having experienced that night, I fully believe that this is something parents should be doing more often. So if you have the opportunity to dump your little ones with someone you trust, here are some date night ideas for parents.

But first, a tip…

I know that parents are so used to rushing, but remember that you don’t have the kids and you can take your sweet time. You don’t have to wolf down your meal and then immediately head out for dessert or back home. Enjoy your meal slowly as you have amazing conversation with your spouse, and then head out to dessert an hour or so later after your dinner has digested. Slow down and enjoy this evening!

1. Do it. A lot.

Yupp, this is my first date night idea. You should 10,000% be having great sex on a night when your little ones are sleeping elsewhere. Take advantage of the house being empty and do it wherever you please, however often you please, and as loudly as you please. Break out all the fancy tricks and fun things and simply enjoy each other.

Oh, and be sure to do it in the morning again before you get the kids back!

2. Eat dinner at one place and dessert at another

To fully take advantage of the fact that you don’t have to rush, eat dinner at one restaurant and get dessert from another. This is fun because it allows you to pick out two places you’d really love to go. Let’s say you’re really craving your favorite Italian restaurant but aren’t crazy about their desserts… Just go somewhere else for dessert! It truly is having the best of both worlds.

3. Go to a popular late-night restaurant

Parents are usually stuck at home during the evening hours due to bed times. Therefore, I highly recommend going somewhere late in the evening. Here in Phoenix the popular late-night restaurants are Denny’s and the Waffle House. Neither are fancy but both offer a unique culture and experience during those hours.

At Waffle House.

4. Go out to breakfast the next morning

Breakfast dates are my favorite. So whether you go out for a full-on breakfast or just stop into a donut shop, don’t miss this opportunity!

  2. Next month my husband and I are going away for the first time for 2 nights to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and I loved these suggestions!! Especially about slowing down to enjoy the memories. Definitely want to savor the memories because the weekend will go by too fast!

Congratulations on 10 years! That’s amazing! We’ll be celebrating our 5 year in May. Another great tip is to keep your phone away by close by for photo opps. Stay off of it for social media but be sure to capture lots of picture to look back on 🙂
