Mom Hacks to Make Life Easier

Posted February 2, 2018 by Kalyn in Hacks, Motherhood / 12 Comments

I don’t know about you, but I’m all about working smarter, not harder. This is especially true now that I have a toddler. The simpler, the better! Over my time as a mother, I’ve discovered a few things – hacks, if you will – that have made my life so much easier. Anyone can use these hacks, so if one of these sounds helpful to you, please implement it. So without further ado, let’s get into these mom hacks to make life easier.

1. Use small bags to organize your purse

It is not uncommon for a mom’s purse or diaper bag to be an absolute disaster. Moms pretty much have to be prepared for any scenario, so we tend to carry a lot of extras with us. I hate having to shuffle around in my bag, so I started dividing up the contents of my bag into smaller bags. Think like pencil bag size. I divide up the items into different categories and zip them away into the bag. It keeps the diaper bag much tidier and makes it much easier for me to find things.

Pro tip: To make this hack even easier, go for bags that you can see into it. Either mesh or clear. That way you don’t have to unzip each bag to find the one you’re looking for.

2. Extra laundry basket

The second thing on my list of mom hacks to make life easier is to have an extra laundry basket. I reserve this laundry basket for clothes I’ve worn that aren’t necessarily dirty. I don’t want to take the time to hang them back up, so I just toss them into this basket. This keeps them separated from the truly clean clothes that haven’t been worn at all, but gives me easy access to them to throw them back on the next day.

I find this hack to be particularly helpful since I change outfits multiple times a day. I might lounge around in one outfit, change into work out clothes for the gym, and then a different outfit for going out in the evening.

On Saturday morning, before I start laundry, I go through the basket and wash what needs to be washed and re-hang any clothes that aren’t truly dirty. I love this hack because it saves on laundry big time!

3. Organize your tupperware

Probably one of the things that drives me most crazy is when our Tupperware is a mess. I know it’s contained into a cabinet, but it literally haunts me! Containers everywhere with no matching lids to be found! Ugh, it’s a nightmare! So I went to the dollar store, picked up some bins, and organized our Tupperware with them. Now our Tupperware stays nice and tidy, and I love it!

Pro tip: You can organize them either by size, shape, or type. The possibilities are endless! My inner Monica Gellar is jumping for joy!

4. Use music to power through

As a mom, I do all kinds of menial tasks I don’t want to do. When I’m really struggling to get a task done, I find a great playlist on Spotify and power through. The music helps pump me up and distract me from the task at hand. This helps to boost my mood and makes me work faster.

Pro tip: Create your own playlist in Spotify to really get pumped up!

5. Divide up your shopping list

Last but certainly not least on my list of mom hacks to make your life easier is to divide up your shopping lists by category. This one is such a valuable time saver! This helps so that you don’t miss an item when you’re in that section of the store, as you can easily glance at that category to double check.

I divide my grocery lists into four categories: dairy, produce, meats, and miscellaneous. My other lists are divided into whatever necessary categories, such as: cleaning products, toiletries, kid items, etc.

The extra laundry basket has been such a life saver! Our daughter is only two, so she doesn’t have one in her room yet, but she will definitely have her own too!

  1. Ah totally hear you mama! Especially #3 – I so need my tupperware with their lids on. I stack them on top of each other and it just makes life so much easier!

Good tips! I tend to do 2x extra laundry baskets – one for lightly used clothes that I can slip back into for lounging like you said, and another for workout clothes that need to stay separate from nice everyday clothes 🙂
