Oh no – someone from a direct sales company has set their sights on you. Maybe they friended you on Facebook or had approached you in public. You start to sweat.
“Oh no! They’re never gonna leave me alone! How can I get them to back off? I know – I’ll just make up a whole bunch of excuses and give them the run around. Oh! I’ll tell them I’ll book with them and then ignore them for the next few weeks! That oughta be loud and clear! Maybe I’ll rant and rave on Facebook about how annoying direct sales is… Yeah, that should get them off my back!”
The truth is, is that it’s ridiculously easy to let someone in direct sales know that you aren’t interested…
“No, thank you though!”
But the catch is that it has to be a full moon, you need to be wearing an article of clothing with pink polka dots on it, you should be hopping up and down on one leg, and it never hurts for you to drink a glass of orange juice while you do it.
In all seriousness, if you just give them a direct “no” they will back off.
Does every company have a few that don’t respect no? Yes, but the majority of the direct sales world are sane, rational people who will listen. Promise. Now, they may ask you why, but that’s because they don’t want you to be saying no based off of misconceptions. And if you’re willing to give an answer, do. If not, just stay firm.
And remember, if they’ve expressed an interest in you, it’s probably because you seem smart, put together, and all around personable. Seriously, take it as a compliment! 😗
