As most of you know, Derek and I run a tight ship financially. We have to in order for me to be able to stay home. For now, our hobbies are at a stand still. In terms of my makeup collection, it’s been in maintenance mode since Clementine was born – meaning that I don’t purchase products unless I’ve run out of them. The only exception is new releases from Mary Kay.
Imagine my excitement when one of my favorite YouTube girls, Jaclyn Hill, was collaborating and releasing a palette with a very affordable brand, Morphe Brushes. If you haven’t heard of Morphe – they are a social media brand and use influencers to promote their products. They do have a store front in California, but you won’t find them in Target or Wal-Mart.
I spent months convincing myself I wouldn’t need it, and then Jaclyn did a video with some of the most impressive swatches I’ve ever seen.
Not only were the colors stunning, but Jaclyn explained that each color was pressed individually and differently in order to maximize the pigmentation of each shadow. #signmeupplease
I had been talking about this palette to Derek for months. He knew the release was coming and thank you, Jesus, that the release was during summer, when we actually have slightly more wiggle room.
Needless to say, you know how the story ends (especially if you follow my makeup Instagram account @kalynfoggy).
I GOT THE PALETTE!
I immediately started dabbling and creating multiple looks with the palette.
The mattes are creamy and blendable and the shimmers are b-e-a-u-tiful. A lot of the matte shades are similar, I will say that. It doesn’t bother me much though because I know that going in with multiple colors that are similar in shade will ultimately end up being a smooth gradient.
The one shimmer I was disappointed in was the royal blue. It definitely performs more purple. However, using a black cream base underneath it really helps it to pull blue.
Over all, I’ve created a multitude of different looks using different techniques and am very satisfied with it. This will be a palette that I treasure for a long time!
Below are the looks I’ve created using it.
